If like me, you have a toddler in the house, you’re too exhausted to even think about celebrating Valentines Day, let alone hitting the shops with your kiddo for supplies. But this special day isn’t just reserved for the adults. Why not celebrate it with the little ones for a wonderful way to show gratitude in the simplest of ways by sharing what you love about each other. And with that in mind I’ve created a FREE printable Valentines Day card so you can do just that!
This Valentines Day keep it simple when planning the celebrations by downloading my series of Free Valentines Day printables – keep your eyes peeled for more goodies coming this week. With the click of a button, you’ll be ready to celebrate V-Day in no time and without having to leave the house.
There’s nothing nicer than giving a hand made card to your little one on Valentines Day and even better if it doubles up as a spinning illusion toy! So my first giveaway is this cute spinning card (also known as a thaumatrope if you’re into that sort of thing.) My fun Love Bug Valentines card has just the right amount of cute and is perfect for your little ones, who will be amazed at how the two pictures merge together when twirled. I was inspired to make an optical illusion Valentines card after seeing a lovely post by Babble Dabble Do and remembering the fun lessons I had showing my school students how to make these clever illusions. Known as Thaumatropes, they work by having an image on each side of a disc, held at opposite sides by string. When you turn the string is between your fingers it causes the two images, from each side of the disc to combine and appear as one. Clever huh? and such a fun way to introduce a bit of science fun to the kids this Valentines Day!
Here’s what you need to get started:
- Valentines download
- Colour printer
- A4 Card (use the heaviest weight your printer can take)
- Glue stick
- Hole punch
- 2x rubber bands (you can use pretty string or ribbon but the rubber is much easier for little fingers to twiddle)
- Print out the valentines card.
- Fold the paper along the dotted line so that your image is facing outwards on both sides. Fold carefully along the dotted line to ensure your design is perfectly lined up!
- Glue the blank sides together.
- Carefully cut around the disc.
- Use the hole punch to make 2 holes, using the black crosses as guides.
- Insert the elastic bands, pulling the ends through the open loop.
- Twist the ends between your thumb and finger to make the card spin!
Showing that you care really doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money, so why not treat your loved ones to a special breakfast or pack a surprise into their lunch? All prettied up with our lovely printables of course.
